How SafeSlug handles account data, encrypted links, analytics, cookies, and AI-assisted features.

1. Information We Collect

SafeSlug is designed with privacy as a first principle. We collect the minimum amount of information necessary to provide our URL shortening service.

  • Account Information: If you create an account, we store your authentication details via our secure provider Clerk.
  • Links: The target URLs you shorten and their slugs are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM.
  • Link Analytics: We store one analytics record per redirect with referrer hostname, generalized country code, and device class when available. We do not store raw IP addresses.
  • Website Usage Data: We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how people use the website and to improve layout and performance. This can include page views, clicks, mouse movements, scrolling, and session recordings.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

  • Provide and maintain the SafeSlug service.
  • Use AI to generate smart slugs by sending page metadata to OpenAI strictly for summarization and slug suggestion.
  • Display your link analytics on your dashboard.
  • Analyze website traffic and optimize the platform using Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity.

3. Data Security and Encryption

Your target URLs and slugs are encrypted before being saved to our database. Even if our database were compromised, raw destination URLs and slugs would remain unreadable without the encryption key stored securely in our environment.

4. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate SafeSlug:

  • Authentication: Clerk handles secure login.
  • Database: Our infrastructure providers host and operate encrypted application data.
  • AI Features: The OpenAI API is used solely to generate summaries, tags, and smart slug suggestions.
  • Analytics & Tracking: Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity help us analyze traffic and user behavior.

5. Manage Your Cookie Preferences

You can manage cookie preferences at any time. Use the controls below to accept, decline, or reset your consent.
